Library news for October 22-31, 2010

October 23- Pumpkin Painting: pumpkin

Join us from 10 am-12pm to paint and decorate a pumpkin. We will provide small-medium sized pumpkins, paint, and materials to create an awesome or scary decoration for your house!  Tickets are $2.50/pumpkin

October 23- Spider Show(ages 6+):

Come to the library to learn all about spiders and other arachnids. Austin Arachnological Services will present fascinating and fun scientific information that the whole family will enjoy! He will also be bringing live spiders, scorpions, and other arachnids to see up close!

The library will be closed on Thursday, October 28th, for inventory.

scarecrowNext Weekend:  October 30- Fall Festival:  

Bring the family to the library for this free Fall Festival.  There will be a spooky storytime, costume contest, crafts, games and prizes; all wrapping up with a viewing of It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.

  • Green Living Seminar:  November 6 at 2pm
  • Texas Master Naturalist Seminar:  November 7 at 2pm
  • Scrapbooking Workshop:  November 13 at 2pm (advance registration required, age 14+)
  • Needles, Hooks and Books:  November 14 at 2pm  New Book Club  Read Jane Eyre and bring your handiwork to the meeting to work on while we discuss the book.  You know you always meant to read it (again). 
  • Mad Science:  November 20 at 11am  (age 6+)  Live demonstrations by scientists!
  • Holiday Bazaar:  November 21 from 12-6pm   Start your holiday shopping locally!  Your friends and neighbors will be offering unique gifts from home businesses.  20% of sales goes to the library.

Space is limited to 25 participants. 

  • Oct 27: Painted Gourds/Pumpkins- Use your imagination to paint & decorate little pumpkins & gourds suitable for fall events.
  • Nov 4: Turkeys & Cornucopias- Come create turkeys & cornucopias from paper and clay. You can even add veggies.
  • Nov 11: Thanksgiving Tableware- Make a plate with reverse collage or decorate napkin rings to use for holiday celebrations.
  • Nov 17: Pilgrim Painting- Paint wooden cutouts of all the people who attended the 1st Thanksgiving.
  • Nov 24: NO CLASS
