FRIENDS OF THE WELLS BRANCH LIBRARY

2003 ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

We at the Wells Branch Community Library take seriously our commitment to public service and we have demonstrate that commitment by being responsive to the community we are honored to serve. In the last five years, we have responded quickly to requests from the community and offer many services and programs.

We have provided the Summer reading programs for more than 700 children, with 150 enrolled this summer and offer weekly story times for 20 pre-school children. The after-school program for K-3rd has enticed students with books, films and activities. This summer’s teen nights and family movie nights are attracting a great following. We expanded Computer and Internet resources over the last four years as demand soared from 23 users per month to more than 700. This spring we were able to add a dedicated area to assist job seekers with computer resources. We have molded the Collection based on patron input and requests and have a wide selection of audio books, family movies on VHS and DVD and best sellers and books for special interests.

As the library celebrates its fifth anniversary, we are constructing a permanent facility and will move there in October. As a tax district, we provide services to all who want to use the library. We are currently in rental space at Bratton Square, which has become far too small to provide adequate resources for this community. The new building will be much larger than our current space and will have a separate children’s library and meeting rooms for public use, in addition to the general library services and public computers.

The Library District has secured financing for much of the building but needs funds to furnish the building and to expand staff and programs this fall. The new library will better serve the lives of over 18,000 neighbors and friends, nearly 5000 of these are our youngest citizens, children of all ages.

The Library is embarking on its first Annual Campaign. Please join us and help strengthen the empowering resources of The Wells Branch Community Library by giving to the 2003 Annual Giving Campaign Come grow with us. Your contribution will enable the library to improve and expand our collections, as well as support new and continued programs for reading and lifelong learning as we move into our new facility.

What is an Annual Campaign?

An annual Campaign is designed to encourage giving on an on-going basis to increase the operating budget and to insure the success of the library.

Campaign Money will be used to provide . . .

  •  Increased resources including new books, CDs, videos, and periodicals.

  •  Technology in the new Library. Increase public computers for adults from 6 to 12 and increase children’s and teens’ from 2 to 7, add a new self-checkout station and meeting room reservation system.

  • Comfortable furnishings in the new library. Our youngest patrons need to have properly sized chairs and tables. Teens and students of all ages need study corrals. Parents and grandparents need a new loveseat to read to the little ones in. Adults need comfortable chairs to sit in to browse periodicals or study.

  • Expanded programming especially for children.

Where do Annual Giving dollars go?
Annual Giving dollars go directly into the current annual operating budget. Our outstanding staff, programs, and materials will be supported by the funds raised during the Annual Giving Campaign. Our patrons are the direct beneficiaries of annual giving dollars.

Why is the Annual Giving Campaign needed?
Tax dollars are just not enough to provide for the expansion of services requested by the library patrons. Costs for providing adequate levels of materials, technology, and programs are high. Patrons require a variety of resources to meet their individual needs.

Your strategic partnership will send the message of furthering support and contribute to the expanded success in this community-leveraged investment opportunity. Together we can encourage literacy, continue after school programs, and increase the quality of life for the Wells Branch area.

The library is a 501C-3 charity and all donations are tax deductible. As a business donor, your business’ name will be published on the Library page in the WBNA neighborhood newsletter that is delivered to 2800 homes in Wells Branch; on signage at the library; and on our website. All founding family donors are also listed on the website.

Join us today to support the continued growth of the Wells Branch Community Library. Several levels of support are available (see below). You may send us a check or use the link on our website to contribute using your credit card.
